- He became the youngest player to score centuries against all other test playing nations, when he scored a century against Zimbabwe, on August 2016.
- He also achieved this feat with fewest number of test innings to his name.
- He was born as Kane Stuart Williamson on August 8, 1990, to Brett Williamson and Sandra Williamson, in Taurang, New Zealand. He has three elder sisters and a twin brother named Logan, who is just few minutes younger than him.
- He made his debut in One Day Internationals on August 10, 2010, against India. He made a nine-ball duck.
- His International Test debut also came against India in the same year. However, unlike his ODI debut, he scored 131 runs of 299 deliveries, thus becoming the eighth New Zealander to score a century on Test debut.
- He also holds the record of most test runs scored in a calendar year by a New Zealander, when he scored 1172 in the year 2015. The same year, he was the third highest run scorer across all formats.
- He was handed over the captaincy of New Zealand cricket team, across all formats in 2016, when the then-captain Brandon McCullum retired from International Cricket.
- During his time at Tauranga Boys College, from 2004 to 2008, he has reportedly scored more than 40 centuries.
- He was signed by Sunrises Hyderabad of Indian Premier League on February 2015 for $96500. However, he became captain of the side only in the 2018 IPL when David Warner of Australia (Captain of SRH) was suspended from International Cricket due to involvement in a ball tampering incident.
- He is ambidextrous, who uses both his hands equally well. However, while playing cricket, he is a right handed player (batting and bowling), but uses his left hand to write.
